Surviving Hurricanes & Losing Sunglasses: Our Cabo San Lucas Adventure

We recently took a trip to Cabo San Lucas, and it was a mix of luxury, hurricane drama, and really great buffet meals. My husband and I packed up our beach gear and flew out with my parents, my brother, and sister-in-law. And because we like to travel in style (read: like a mini tour group), we were also joined by friends we met on a past trip to Punta Cana. We were basically a vacation sitcom waiting to happen.

Where We Stayed

We checked into the Pueblo Bonito Pacifica Golf & Spa Resort – All Inclusive with an ocean view balcony that honestly made it hard to want to leave the room. Waking up to the sound of crashing waves and sipping coffee on the balcony? Absolute bliss.

Our resort wasn’t beachfront in the way we hoped—the waves were far too powerful for swimming, which we found out the dramatic way. 🌊 But more on that later…

The Hurricane Twist 🌪️

Yep, we were in Cabo during a hurricane. Did it cancel our trip? Nope. Did it give us massive waves and a few dramatic sky views? Definitely. We were totally safe, no major issues—just a little more wind and wave than we bargained for. But the biggest tragedy of all?
I lost my favorite sunglasses. RIP. You served me well.

Food, Drinks & All-Inclusive Bliss

Let’s talk about the good stuff: the food and drinks. Because if there’s anything you can count on with an all-inclusive, it’s that you’ll never be hungry (or thirsty). Here’s a quick taste of what we enjoyed:

Buffets for Days – From breakfast spreads with made-to-order omelets to dinners full of international dishes, there was always something for everyone (even for the pickiest person).

The Drinks Were Top Notch – Fruity cocktails by day, espresso martinis by night. Our crew had no trouble keeping the bartenders busy. Especially my husband – it was his 50th birthday and he most certainly drank his last night of his forties away. Boy…that was a site!

Swim-Up Bar = Vacation Goals – Is it even a beach vacation if you’re not sipping something tropical while sitting half-submerged in a pool? What was weird was that no one ever had to pee. So strange.

Rooftop Bar Vibes – At sunset, we made our way to the rooftop bar, where the views of the ocean and twinkling resort lights made everything feel extra magical.

A Little Cabo Adventure

We did book a boat excursion to go see the famous rock formation – El Arco (The Arch). It was just as beautiful in person as you see in all the photos. Lots and lots of Sea Lions – they were adorable. We took a cab ride across town—not for sightseeing, but to visit another hotel with a swimmable beach. Pro tip: Not all beaches in Cabo are safe for swimming, so if that’s important to you, check before you book!
That spontaneous hotel-hopping moment turned out to be a fun little detour—and gave us the perfect chance to see a bit more of Cabo. These are our favorite moments in all of our trips.

Final Thoughts

Would I go back to Cabo? 100%. Even with the hurricane. Even without my sunglasses. Because when you’re with family, friends, and there’s a rooftop bar involved—it’s always worth the trip.

Cabo gave us gorgeous views, unforgettable waves, and lots of laughs over frozen margaritas. If you’re thinking about booking a trip, I say: do it. And maybe pack an extra pair of shades. 😎
